Starting Points

What to expect

Join our Palaiokastritsa Vespa Tour to ride along scenic country roads and traditional villages, including a visit to Palaiokastritsa, and Angelokastro. This tour includes a hearty Corfiot cuisine lunch with a fine selection of original local dishes.

At our office you will meet your Tour escort, you will try our Vespa helmets and you will choose the right helmet size for you. Before the tour begins you will be asked to sign a liability waiver. As long as you stay at our office you can lay down at our lounge and you may enjoy a complimentary cup of coffee or tea.

Riding through the traditional villages of Lakones and Krini we will visit Angelokastro, a Byzantine castle set on a steep hill with great views of the whole island. Angelokastro (castle of Angels) is one of the most important fortified complexes of Byzantine Corfu. Getting to Angelokastro will require about an hour driving from Corfu town but the beauty of the area will reward you for your effort. The view from the castle is breathtaking.

As we continue our Palaiokastritsa Vespa Tour, passing through Lakones on the way to the Palaiokastritsa monastery you will see the best view of Corfu island (and according to many visitors one of Mediterranean’s best) in an amazing setting of olive groves and pine trees. On a green hill above the beach of Paleokastritsa, on the north western side of Corfu, there is a large Monastery dedicated to Virgin Mary (Panagia in Greek). This monastery dominates the whole region and it offers a breathtaking view of the island and the sea below. The Paleokastritsa Monastery is believed to have been founded in the early 13th century. Although it is considered a historical site, it is still a working monastery, and it plays an important role in the life of the locals.

Our next stop is Kaiser’s Throne. Between 1908 and the first world war, Kaiser Wilhelm II spent his summers at Achillion Palace but his favorite location was the village of Pelekas where he wants to build the Achillion palace in the first place. It’s not difficult to understand why. Standing at his “throne” you have a 360-degree panoramic view of the island and one of the most impressive sunsets.

On our final destination we drive to Mirtiotissa Beach. The local cuisine of Corfu has been catalytically influenced by the 411 years of Venetian occupation. Our tour includes a visit to a small local family-owned restaurant where the cook (restaurant owner) learned all the traditional Corfiot cuisines secrets from his mother and grandmother. The homegrown vegetables and poultry, the wooden oven, the original Corfiot cuisine recipes that passed from great grandmother to mother & son and the owners’ passion for authenticity are the reasons why we choose this restaurant.

As we return back to our office and meeting point we will pass by Corfu old town, the old fortress, the Spianada square, the Liston, the Palace of St. Michael and St. George, Mouragia, the old port area, and the new fortress.
